File & Image ToolsFree online tool
Compress JPG, PNG and WebP images in your browser, or shrink a photo to a size limit such as 20, 50, 100 or 200 KB for forms and portals.
Quick answer: To compress an image to 50 KB, choose To a target size, pick 50 KB and add your photo. The tool lowers the JPG quality first and makes the picture smaller only if it still does not fit. Nothing is uploaded.
Choose your file or image, set any options, then create your result.
Use the controls above, check the result, then copy or download it when available.
The tool saves your image as a JPG at different quality levels, measures each result and keeps the highest quality that stays under your limit. If even low quality is too large, it makes the picture a little smaller and tries again. This usually takes a second or two, and it all happens in your browser.
PNG and WebP files are converted to JPG in this mode, because JPG is the format most upload forms accept. Transparent areas become white. Use By quality if you need to keep PNG or WebP.
| Your file | A phone photo of a few MB |
|---|---|
| Setting | To a target size, 50 KB |
| What the tool does | Tries JPG quality from high to low, and shrinks the picture only if low quality is still too large |
| What you see | The new file size, the pixel dimensions and the quality used |
The exact result depends on your photo. Busy pictures need more shrinking than plain ones.
Use the limit your form or portal states. Limits differ between exams, jobs and government services, and they change, so read the instructions on the page you are uploading to. The 20, 50, 100 and 200 KB buttons are common starting points, and you can type any value from 5 to 5000 KB.
Some portals also ask for exact pixel dimensions. This tool does not set pixel dimensions, so use the Image Resizer for that first and then compress.
Start from the original file, not a screenshot of it, and crop away empty background first so the pixels you keep are the ones that matter. Lower limits mean smaller pictures and softer detail, so choose the largest limit your form allows.
Check the result at the size it will be shown. Faces and printed text are the first things to blur.

The browser-based workflow is designed to process supported images locally.
Use this tool whenever you need: Exam and job application photos, upload portals with a file size limit, website images and email attachments. It offers a fast, client-side workflow without sign-ups, installation or complex software.
Yes. All processing executes locally in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your inputs, files and calculations remain private and are never uploaded to our servers.
Choose To a target size for a KB limit, keep the original file, and check the result at the size it will be shown. Important note: Compression lowers quality, and a very small size limit can force a much smaller image. Check your form for any exact pixel size, which this tool does not set.
Choose To a target size, pick 20 KB and add the image. If the picture cannot reach 20 KB without becoming very small, the tool shows the smallest result it could make and says so.
A size limit is easiest to meet with JPG, and JPG is the format most upload forms accept. Transparent areas turn white. Use By quality mode if you need to keep PNG or WebP.
That depends on the limit. A larger limit keeps more detail, and 20 KB removes a lot of it. Compare the result at its display size before you upload it.
Not unless the tool tells you it could not reach the limit. In that case it gives the smallest version it could make and shows its size so you can decide.

Images are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. A 40-million-pixel safety limit helps keep processing responsive.
